Dr. Nicholas Wisdom is the co-founder and CEO of Neurocognitive Specialty Group and a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist. NSG started as a single Houston practice and has grown into a multistate group with clinics in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Georgia, supported by a wider provider network covering more than 40 states. He remains a practicing clinician first: he directs NSG’s League City clinic, where he sees patients for neuropsychological and forensic evaluations every week.

Education and Training. Dr. Wisdom earned his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Oklahoma State University in 2010, completed his predoctoral residency at the Yale University School of Medicine, and finished a two-year fellowship in clinical neuropsychology at the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston — where he trained under Dr. Robert Collins, with whom he would later co-found NSG. He has been board certified in Clinical Neuropsychology by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP-CN) since 2015 and is licensed in eight states — Texas, Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii — with PSYPACT authorization to provide telehealth services across most of the United States.

Clinical Career. Before founding NSG with Dr. Collins, Dr. Wisdom spent six years as a staff neuropsychologist at the DeBakey VA and served on faculty as an Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Medicine. At the VA he evaluated patients referred from neurology, mental health, spinal cord injury, and long-term care services — a caseload spanning dementia, traumatic brain injury, stroke, Parkinson’s disease, seizure disorders, brain tumors, PTSD, and mood disorders. That breadth still defines his clinical practice today.

Forensic Expertise. Dr. Wisdom has extensive experience in both civil and criminal forensic neuropsychology. He has been retained as an expert in approximately 500 civil litigation cases, conducting independent medical examinations (IMEs) in personal injury matters (roughly 85% defense-retained, 15% plaintiff), along with Defense Base Act, return-to-work, fitness-for-duty, and police pre-employment evaluations — and he travels throughout the country to conduct IMEs wherever the case requires. He is a certified examiner in the NFL Concussion Settlement’s BAP program and has evaluated more than 1,200 NFL players nationwide under the NFL (BAP and MAF) and NCAA concussion settlements. He is also a fully approved FAA aviation neuropsychologist and is listed in the SEAK Directory of Independent Medical Examiners.

Research. Dr. Wisdom has published and presented widely on performance and symptom validity testing — the science of ensuring test results genuinely reflect a patient’s abilities — including studies of the Test of Memory Malingering, the Structured Inventory of Malingered Symptomatology, and validity testing in PTSD populations. His other published work spans normal cognitive aging, memory assessment, psychogenic non-epileptic events, and a widely cited meta-analysis of the apolipoprotein E gene’s effects on cognition. He has served as an ad hoc reviewer for The Clinical Neuropsychologist, Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology, and the Journal of the International Neuropsychological Society.

Leadership and Service. Dr. Wisdom served as President of the Houston Neuropsychological Society (2014–2015) and received the Society’s Outstanding Leadership Award. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of Oklahoma Christian University in 2013. Throughout his career he has taught and supervised psychology interns and fellows, lecturing on test selection and interpretation, ethics, dementia, PTSD, and effort and validity assessment.

Outside of NSG’s clinics, Dr. Wisdom continues to focus on what has defined his career from the beginning: careful, evidence-based evaluation — whether the question comes from a family worried about memory loss, a physician seeking diagnostic clarity, or an attorney who needs an objective, defensible answer.
