Our Alpharetta Clinic

Neurocognitive Specialty Group’s Atlanta neuropsychology clinic is located in Alpharetta, serving patients and referring providers across the north metro and the greater Atlanta area.

The clinic is directed by Dr. Alex Alverson, a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist and Georgia Tech graduate who completed his doctorate at the University of Houston and a two-year neuropsychology fellowship at the South Texas Veterans Health Care System, with rotations in polytrauma rehabilitation serving veterans and active-duty service members. He is an FAA-approved neuropsychologist and is involved in training and mentoring neuropsychologists pursuing board certification. He practices alongside Dr. Farah Goheer, and the clinic’s part-time neuropsychology staff includes Dr. Callie Dunn — a board-certified, Emory-trained neuropsychologist — along with Drs. Michelle Jackson, Stephanie Salinas, and Leslie Taylor.

Our office is a ground-floor suite in a freestanding office building at 11810 Northfall Ln, with handicap-accessible parking on site and a wheelchair-accessible entrance. We see patients Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and most new evaluations begin in the morning so testing finishes comfortably within the day.

Rachel coordinates scheduling, records, and day-of logistics for Alpharetta patients, and also assists with test administration under our doctors’ supervision. Our psychometrists administer and score standardized tests under the supervision of our doctors — they are a big part of your testing day and are trained to keep it running smoothly and comfortably.

Neuropsychological & Psychological Evaluations

Neurologists, neurosurgeons, psychiatrists, and primary care physicians refer patients to our Alpharetta office for neuropsychological evaluation of:

• Memory loss, dementia, and age-related cognitive change
• Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-concussion concerns
• Stroke and brain tumors
• Pre-surgical evaluations for epilepsy and for Parkinson’s disease, including candidacy assessment for deep brain stimulator implantation

Every evaluation includes a records review, a clinical interview, standardized testing, and a detailed written report with diagnostic impressions and practical recommendations — delivered to you and your referring provider. Most testing appointments take between three and five hours, and results are available within a week.

Medicolegal Evaluations

Counsel, insurers, third-party administrators, and government agencies retain the Atlanta clinic for civil independent medical examinations, records-only reviews, Defense Base Act claims, and sports concussion and NFL litigation evaluations — including NFL Concussion Settlement BAP and Monetary Award Fund examinations. NSG bills hourly and accepts no letters of protection and no contingency-based fee arrangements, so the fee never depends on the outcome of the case.

FAA & HIMS Evaluations

Dr. Alverson is an FAA-approved neuropsychologist performing FAA-required evaluations for pilots and aviation professionals seeking medical certification or recertification, including HIMS program assessments. We work with pilots and Aviation Medical Examiners across Georgia and the Southeast to support timely certification decisions.

Telehealth Across 40+ States

Through PSYPACT, telehealth appointments are available to patients in more than 40 states — including pre-screening consultations, clinical interviews, follow-ups, feedback sessions, and select assessments via secure, HIPAA-compliant video.

Our Alpharetta clinic serves the north Atlanta metro, including Alpharetta, Roswell, Milton, Johns Creek, Cumming, Sandy Springs, Marietta, Duluth, and communities across Fulton, Cobb, Cherokee, Forsyth, Gwinnett, and DeKalb counties. We regularly see patients referred from Emory Healthcare, Piedmont, Georgia Neurology, Midtown Neurology, and physicians throughout metro Atlanta. The office is just off GA-400, about 40 minutes from downtown Atlanta.

What to Expect at Your Appointment

Plan to arrive a few minutes early with your photo ID, insurance card, a list of current medications, and any prior imaging, neurology, or psychological records you have. Wear your glasses or hearing aids if you use them, take your medications as usual unless your physician has said otherwise, and eat breakfast — testing can be mentally demanding and we want your best effort. You’re welcome to bring a family member; we often ask a spouse or adult child a few questions, and they can wait comfortably in our lobby during testing.

Do I need a physician referral?
Yes — clinical evaluations require a physician referral. If you don’t have one yet, call us anyway: we can schedule your appointment and contact your provider to request the referral.

How long does a neuropsychological evaluation take?
Most patients are with us for three to five hours, including the interview and testing.

Do you perform FAA evaluations?
Yes — Dr. Alverson is FAA approved and performs FAA neuropsychological and HIMS evaluations for pilots and aviation professionals. These are scheduled and billed separately from clinical evaluations; call us to discuss your situation and timeline.

Will my insurance cover the evaluation?
We accept most major insurance plans, including Medicare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Optum United Healthcare, Evernorth Cigna, Humana, TRICARE East/Humana Military, and others — call us to verify your benefits, or see our billing & insurance page. Forensic, FAA, and medicolegal work is retained and billed separately and is never billed to health insurance.

When will I get my results?
You’ll receive a feedback session and a written report within a week of testing. Your referring physician receives the report as well.
