Clinical Neuropsychologist
Dr. Rickards joined Neurocognitive Specialty Group in 2025. He is a board-certified clinical neuropsychologist specializing in forensic neuropsychological evaluations, including independent medical examinations, fitness-for-duty evaluations, and evaluations of individuals reporting cognitive or mood-related changes following injury or illness. Dr. Rickards earned his Ph.D. in Medical/Clinical Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, completed his predoctoral internship at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System, and completed his postdoctoral residency in rehabilitation neuropsychology — serving as chief resident — at Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
Dr. Rickards sees patients clinically in the Department of Psychiatry & Neuropsychology at the University of Maryland Rehabilitation & Orthopaedic Institute (UMD Kernan) and teaches clinical neuropsychology as a lecturer at Johns Hopkins University. In addition to contract work with NSG, Dr. Rickards maintains a private practice, Rickards Forensic Neuropsychological Consulting, LLC, providing forensic neuropsychological evaluation and consultation services. Forensic evaluations are offered in Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, and Washington DC, with travel available for cases in additional jurisdictions upon request.
Publications include those related to neuroplasticity, performance validity / “malingering,” concussion / mild TBI, as well as several in the areas of neuroimaging, rehabilitation, and brain injury.
